What happened to Friday???

I swear I just got up and had coffee and read the paper and here it is 7 pm. All I've done today is put a few quilt squares together and finish up the little hat that matches the raglan sweater and make some Mema tags and sew them on. Took a few pics and watched only one movie. then the grandkids came over and they're still here, play fighting right here next to me. HOpe they don't kill each other. lol

here is the tags I've made and the top of the hat. It is just so cute. I probably can't do that again.

Row counter for knitting

I was looking at some Esty shops the other day and I ordered a couple of sets of stitch markers from this woman. Pretty stuff there. Anyway she had some row counters she had make and I liked them so I made myself one. It's only for a 5 row pattern but it's easy enouhg to add more links when needed. Just thought you'd like to see it.

I"ve Been RAKed!!

WOW I was so surprised and happy today when I got a package from Holly Whipple. I was puzzled as to what she was sending me as we had not spoken of anything.
When I opened the package this is what was in it. Stitch n bitch nation and a journal to go along with it. and a sweet pumpkin dishcloth. One that I don't have either!! wooooh ooooo.
She didn't send a note with said package so I am assuming that Dear Holly is a member of the RAKed group on ravelry.
Thank you so much Holly, you have made my month for sure. I am going to have a good time with this book.
Hugs to you

Log Cabin progress

Just started on the 3rd block using my 3rd color. LOVE it.

Sunday, February 24, 2008

Just thought I'd post a baby afghan pattern that I designed way back when, lol. I love this pattern and have made at least 40 of these over the years.

Patt"s Basketweave Baby Blanket-copyright 1972

This pattern is very versatile as using different yarns and different color combinations can create entirely different looking blankets, as will using different edgings.

Materials needed:

Crochet hook size H or I

5 skeins Red Heart Yarn or your choice of yarn (30-40 oz yarn)

ch 125.

row 1: dc in 4th chain from hook and in remaining chains. 122 dc. ch 2 turn.

now and in remaining rows chain 2 and turn is first dc in next row.

row 2: front post dc in next 4 dc, back post dc in next 4 dc, repeat across ending with 1 dc in last st. ch 2 turn.

rows: 3 and 4 : repeat row 2.

row 5: back post dc in next 4 dc, front post dc in next 4 dc, 1 dc in last dc. ch 2 turn.

rows 6-8: repeat row 5.

repeat rows 2 through 8 for pattern. ending with row 7, which will give you 95 rows altogether. For the edging: ch 3 and dc in each st around. Sl st to ch 3. Ch 1, reverse sc around entire blanket and finish off. weave in end.

Another good edging for this blanket is the picot edging or a simple 5 dc shell edging.

Raglan Baby Sweater Progress

I'm on row 83 of my baby sweater but am running out of yarn. Gonna go visit my LYS and pick up another skein for the sweater and also a skein or two more for the hoodie my son in law requested me to make for Cole. And then I want some sock yarn to make a few pair of socks. This sweater I think is looking pretty good but is taking me a long time to finish because my shoulder and wrist joints have been really hurting bad this winter. hate when that happens. have to break out the icy hot and Motrin every day now!
It's sunny out today so I plan on warming my shoulder in the sun.
ummmmmmmm feels good.

Premie items done

A member of my knitting group on yahoo, Hi Lily!!. has a new niece. She is a premie and Lily mentioned that she was going to make the baby something because none of the baby clothes fit her. So I decided to make a little hat and socks for her as well. Then a few other members joined in and pretty soon the baby will have a few more pretty things to wear.

Here is what I made for her. I love to make baby things.

Happy Birthday Dennis!!

Today my oldest grandson, Dennis, would be 18. Happy Birthday Dennis.
He's been gone for 4 years now and we miss him soooo much.
We found out he had leukemia AML M7 in July of 2003 and 6 months later he was gone.
I only wish and pray that no other child ever has to suffer from this disease.
If you ever want to donate to a good cause please consider the Leukemia-Lymphoma organization.
Even a $5 donation will help. Research is our only hope of curing leukemia.
The Make a Wish Foundation is also a good place to donate.
They sent Dennis and his Mom and Dad and sisters and brother, to Disneyland for a week. That is what Dennis chose as his wish but there are a lot of things that the kids can wish for and get to do. I and my other daughter Tina and her hubby drove down to Disneyland and met up with Dennis and family and we all had a wonderful time there. We made some great memories of Dennis having lots of fun even while he was so sick.
And also a great place to donate is your local Hospice
In Dennis' last days the Hospice folks came in his home and helped his Mom greatly.
His last days were calm and peaceful and when he passed away he wasn't in any pain.
Writing all this brings back all those memories and my heart feels so heavy, like a big boulder is sitting on my chest.
So I will close this post with simply saying, We love and miss you Dennis, Happy Birthday hon.
With love from your Mema.

I love my groups

During the times that I am just relaxing here, I will read thru my groups emails and randomly click on someones link to their blog. I try to look at new ones. Sometimes I end up looking at the same ones over and over just because the post in the group is interesting. Today I found this one, http://kathleen-dakotadreams.blogspot.com/ and I fell in love with the stranded snowman mittens. I save the pages so I can make some for next winter. They are just the cutest things.

Progress on Raglan Top Down baby sweater

Here is my progress photo. This is a real easy pattern to follow. Mostly knit and purl with a few increases marked by stitch markers. I think everyone will enjoy making some sweet baby this sweater.

Got the dog neutered today. Ouch*

This is our Chihuahua Rayo. He's 16 months old and weighs 4. 6 lbs. And in the photo taken before his surgery he's smiling. hahahahahahahahaha
Isn't he the cutest?
Well got him fixed today. His testicals had not dropped so we thought it was the best for him to get him fixed.
He's in our bed under the covers sleeping right now. Poor little guy. But he will be fine. I have some antibiotics to start giving him tomorrow and I'm sure he will be fine in a few days.

So here is a photo of my Log Cabin progress. I have 18 ridges so far!!

Trying to get things done!!

I so want to start my log cabin afghan but I am trying to finish up the felted clogs and pink earflap hat before I start it. And I need to go to my yarn stash and get out the yarn I want to use for the baby sweater kal I'm starting in a week.

This month is way more busier for me knit wise than the last few ones. I do have a lot of things I want to try out.
Just look at the photo above and see the yarns that I bought last year and are still waiting for me to wind them up!! I want to finally make myself the exactly right purse for me. of course it has to be felted!! and I need one that can be closed at the top with out adding a zipper. Anyone have any ideas on that???
let me know if ya do. I have skoodles of purse patterns but not the exactly right one!!

Starting the year off right

IN my knitting group ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Myknittingcircle/?yguid=255703101 ) we are starting a year long Log Cabin Afghan KAL. I won't be posting any lines of the pattern as everyone has the pattern we are doing. http://images.amazon.com/media/i3d/01/log_cabin.pdf

I plan on using solid colors but don't know what colors just yet. I do tend towards greens and tan or brown colors.

And in the middle of the month we are starting a baby sweater kal. This one I do plan on giving the lines every day or so. here is the link to the sweater we are doing.

I'm going to be making one for gson Cole. Then I'd like to make a bigger sweater for Mia Bella

she wears like a size 6.
Oh and I just joined our local quilting guild! It's called PieceMakers. I've never made a quilt before but I love them. Always have since the first one I got from my granma.
well that's about it for right now.
gotta finish the felted clogs for my sis Vickie and then get started on putting a quilt top together for the charity group the PieceMakers donate to.

Pay it Forward

I was reading Jants Art blog and she had this on it. I love Pay it forward and so I decided to do the same here.

Here are the rules:

The guidelines: "I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days that is my promise!"The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog."Want to participate? Be one of the first 3 people to leave a comment on this post and make the same promise on your own blog. Not So Random Acts of Kindness, and 365 days to do it in!!! What a cool idea! So, here goes! If you're interested in participating, just be one of the first three people to post that you would like to PIF! You don’t have to be a knitter, you can hand craft any gift you are good at.

NOt only will I do this but I promise to do 3 Random Acts of Kindness before this year is over.

I will post about them later after they are done.

I'd like you all to do the same thing. What a nice way to end the year 2007

He looks sad doesn't he.? hahahahahah

blue hat

Here is the blue earflap hat! It ended up being too small for baby Cole so I will give it to Mia Bella for her dolls to wear. I'm happy I made it tho because now I know how easy it is to make and I can make more with no problem!! Cole will still get one before it gets colder. !!(hi tina)

Ravelry Member

those sneaky projects

This always happens to me. I will be working hard on one or more projects, trying hard to get them finished and out of the corner of my eye I will see something interesting on my computer. Hey! What's this?

Oh that would look sooooo cute on so and so. I have just got to cast on for it before I do anything else.!!

And before I know it, I am thumbing thru my needles looking for the right size and scrambling to my yarn stash (only a tiny part of which I can even get to) to find just the yarn for this project. And off I go, casting on feverishly before the pattern disappers and I will lose this chance of a life time. BEcause we all know that if you don't start the item immediately, you lose your chance forever!!! Or at least that's how I am thinking while doing all of the thumbing and scrambling and casting on of stitches and the poor items I had been working on are thrown to the side until my fever starts to subside and my mind becomes clearer.

Does all this mean that I am a knitting addict? YES YES. I admit it.

Hi my name is Patt and I'm a Knitict. And I just started another project that my new grandson Cole just has to have. An Earflap hat!!! Just like the one in the above photo except I'm using a blue yarn as Cole is a boy and blue is a good color for him.
Ok gotta get back to it.

one done

I got one fetching done. What I didn't do was read the pattern all the way thru. What that means is when it came time to do the picot stuff I didn't do it cuz I didn't understand it.

So I will finish the other fetching, got it cast on already. and then I will go practice the cable cast on and the picot stuff. sheesh. I should know better by now. I'm just a little ashamed of myself.

Next ones will be perfect!

Here is the first one done.

2 toe up socks on 2 circular needles

Just started trying to learn how to do the 2 socks toe up on 2 circular needles. So far I have gotten to row 1o and then frogged it as the yarns weren't matching up. NOw I'm just starting over again and gonna see how it comes out. ONce I got the turning and the right needle to use down it was ok.!!
Hugs Patt
will post a photo maybe tomorrow of my progress

we almost had a fisaster!!

We bought a cool fish tank a while back. I know I posted about it here. It is a double hexagon 70 gal tank with 2 tubes attaching the two tanks together. Well about a month ago we had some guys clean it for us, not pro's just some friends of my hubby.

We started noticing that the water was evaporating a lot faster that it used to. We were having to add water more and more each week.

Well hubby finally found out that there was a slow leak in the bottom of the tank and our brand new carpet was getting wetter by the day.
Next day I scoured craigslist and freecycle hoping to find a replacement tank that hubby could pick up fast. Nothing to fit our needs so on the way home from work hubby stopped by local pet store and picked up this second photo fish tank. It says it's 55 gal all glass tank and it looks a lot bigger than the double one. and the double one is acrylic and scratches super easy.
Any way to end the story, our new carpet is almost dry now but we have decided to leave the tank where it is for now. Way too much trouble moving it.
What do you all think:? which tank do you like best? I like the new one best.

Ravelry Member

So I'm a member of Ravelry. Got my invite a few days ago. There is so much stuff here to look at and to do, it's hard to know where to start.

I suggest that newbies start at there notebooks and go looking in the groups and the forums.

I thought it was going to be somehow different than it is. I just wasn't thinking about how many people there were going to be in here.

I have joined 2 groups: Bay Area Knitters and another one I forget already. lol

there is just so much there to look at. lol

Well my id on there is PattM so any of you want to add me as your friend just let me know. It will be cool to see if any of the members read my blog.

I doubt it but hey who knows.

I just started on a pair of Oh Baby Baby booties last night and finished one and started on the second one today. It is soooo cute.

knitting for baby Cole

This is the blanket I'm making Cole and the bottom photo is of me and Cole in his crib underneath all his dinosaurs. He loves his crib. And what a good baby.!!
